This piece was created using the traditional quilting technique of trapunto. Layers of batting were sewn onto a backing and selectively cut away from all the sections between the green "bark" Another layer of batting was added across the back of the piece and the fissures between the green bark were quilted down densely to enhance the 3-D nature of the piece.

hand dyed and commercial cottons, fossils. Machine quilted.
